It's Carnival season here in Aruba and everything is festive with colors, glitters and all kinds of other glittery stuff. It's a huge celebration here. I did my nails for Carnival. Conservative, sexy, but still with a little sparkle... yes, I used glitter again!

This technique is super easy to do; You'll need a sponge. I use the make-up ones, in squares. I dip the sponge in the nail polish and dab all over my nails. I used 4 nail polishes:

  • Petites; Midnight frost/428
  • L.A. Girls; Rock Star Head Banging/NL129
  • L.A. Girls; Amethyst/NL200
  • Jordana; Crystal Glitter/210

Start with the midnight frost. Don't dab all over, just a third of your nails. Then use the amethyst and then the head banging. To finish it off, add the crystal glitter all over. I used some nail art decals I bought to complete this look.

    Sinful Colors Professional
    -HOTTIE 831-

I love this color. I don't like glitter, but the blue is just beautiful. I used it in my previous nail art post. It's just beautiful. I also added the nail polish on top of purple, just gorgeous!!! If you don't want to do much with your nails, but want that eye catching look, use it on any type of vibrant colors like dark purple, green or even on black.

I bought this at Walmart. The price is cheap, but the finish look for it is simply sparkly!

By pure coincidence a picture appears in Nail Venus Bible EX 2009. It even has a press release! LOL.

This is the Nail Polish of the Month!

I bought two new L.A. Girls nail polish. I could only afford two at the time (now that I had my payday, I'm going for more). They sell them a bit expensive here, but still I love the brand and it's a good brand with tons of assortments of colors in every form (matte, glitter, professional etc. etc.).

I also want to do an update on my nails. I've mentioned before that some of my nails broke and that I was waiting for them to grow, however I've changed my mind and cut them short. I want them to re-grow healthy back. I had a couple of nails that were looking depressed (lol, they weren't looking white). I'm waiting for them to re-grow. I'm going to keep doing nail art. but since my nails are short, nothing extravagant. In the above pic, you can see some of my nails and how short they are.

It's Carnival Season here in Aruba, so my nails are going to be festive XD

I promised the next day, it turned out the next week *sigh*.

Anyways here is the pic of my then new nail (LOL).

    Super easy to do.

    How to take off
I hate glitter and I'm still surprised I did one with glitter. Glitter is a bitch to get off your body, hair or nails. I used one cotton ball for each nail, even then there were glitter left behind. While I was doing my nail care I was still getting rid of glitter. Adding glitter is fun and pretty to look at, but it's best when it's on a fake nail.

There's progress on my broken nails, they're growing slowly, but surely *yipeee*

In Nail Up! January 2010 issue I saw a pic of a nail supply store. I nearly had a heart attack. I can just imagine if that store was here, I'd be eating nail polish and cotton balls everyday. Japanese people have it good! Just look at all the goodies!!!

I'm going to do my nails soon, tomorrow I will have an update (I'll try).

I bought this one while I was in Miami and never got around to trying it.

I love L.A. Girls. and it shows with some tutorials I did. I'm not so happy with this product though.

Professional salon formula with diamond powder and white tea extract

The color is lovely and very pretty, but I wished it sparkled more. The problem I had with this product is, that it's not covering the nails, the white or the shadow of your nails shows from underneath the polish. A good nail polish won't show your nails, unless you've applied one coat (I hope you can understand what I mean.). I've applied this like 3-4 times and it's not covering the nails and we all know that if you apply more than two coats, it will get clumpy and take forever to dry and a chance you might ruin the polish (which I did :( ).

  • It's beautiful in the bottle, but looks like a normal purple on your nails.
  • unless you want to add 4-5 coats, I suggest you use some other similar color in another brand.

I hate giving a bad review.

With flash, I wished it sparkled! Because I had to apply more coats, the effect got ruined.

w/out flash. Nothing special to it.

P.S.: I did this without adding a top coat to protect the nail polish and I'm also hiding my middle finger, the nail broke :( so it may be a bit before I do some nail art.

Looking around the web and trying to get inspired, I stumbled upon a nail blog and what caught my eye is the way the blogger is applying her nail polish (shall be remained unnamed).

This is a good example on how not to apply your nail polish. It's a waste of nail polish and you will have to clean a lot of it of your skin (it's never fun) and applying too many coats will result in the nail polish peeling off faster (hers look like she's applied it tons of times).

Applying nail polish is easy. It takes one or two strokes to cover the entire nail (depending on your brush size).

Here is an example from Nail Max April 2009 issue on how to apply your nail polish.

You start where the arrow is and making your way upwards, you do this once or twice more. Make sure you don't have much nail polish on the brush or you will get the above shown result (with much nail polish I mean having nail polish dripping from the brush).

Depending on the brand of your nail polish, one coat will be enough. If it isn't apply one more coat, but again not much nail polish on the brush.

To clean nail polish on your skin: Nail Max's uses a nail art stick to clean away the excess and it's also a good way. I usually use a Q-tip dipped in nail polish remover and use it to remove the extra nail polish off my skin.

Tip: If you want to apply art stickers or jewels, let the nail polish dry completely. It usually takes 3-4 min. for a nail polish to dry. If you have a fan, you can let the air blow on your nails to dry them faster.

Has it ever happened to you? I can well imagine the answer is yes.

A week ago I had a tear in my nail (index finger, right hand) and I went looking around for a way to fix it, I didn't want to cut it off. I found some solutions, but without the products not much can be done about it. I used what I had at the moment and well... here is the outcome for all products used.

Regular clear nail polish (the kind you use for jewels)
    OK this didn't last much.

    Kiss Stick on Glue
I only used the glue underneath the broken nail and on top... this lasted a couple of hours tops and the tear tore open.

Kiss stick on glue & clear nail polish
So I combined them now (LOL) and well it lasted a day, but tore up during work.

Tea bag & clear nail polish
I saw this in one of the Japanese magazines I download, but I can't find it now. You cut a part out of a tea bag (just big enough to cover the tear) and I just used the clear polish. It's just like a band aid for your nails. This one was so much more effective, but lasted two days top.

Bottom line, if you're not a professional and want your nails fixed, go to a proffesional!

Now comes the funny part. After going through all the pains for one tear, a nail completely broke off when I went to open the fridge at work. So now I have a tear in one nail and missing a nail entirely! So not fair!

I'm not dead, just busy. Anyways I did my nails last week and I came up with this design.

The name I gave this design is simple. It's glamorous without being boring and it's edgy without being not wearable. I love L.A. is because the brands I used all have L.A. in their names.

    What you'll need:
  • L.A. Girls Disco Brites Platforms
  • L.A. Girls Rock Star Supernova
  • L.A. Color Nail Brush on Black
  • Clear Tape
  • Q-tips
  • Nail polish Remover
  • Base & Top coat
